How to Get Your Jewellery Out of the Dark and Let it Shine!
Jewellery organisation (or lack of it!) is a common problem. Usually it’s jumbled in a drawer to be shut away and dealt with another day...at least it’s out of sight but a nightmare to quickly find what you need.
The saddest part of jewellery disorganisation is that you are not maximising the use of all your special pieces because you can’t see or even remember what you have.
This is a typical example of a cluttered jewellery drawer before my organisation service.
It’s not a huge commitment to organise jewellery as it’s usually confined to one drawer or counter space. But before you start, you have to decide which storage option is going to work best for you based on your lifestyle and space availability.
The Essential First Step
First, it’s essential that you measure the dimensions of your storage space in terms of length, depth and height. I know, it’s annoying! If you don’t have a tape measure around there are phone Tape Measure apps that can take measurements for you and you can record the details in Notes.
What Type of Storage Do you Need?
If you have a drawer then you need to get jewellery inserts that fit the dimensions of your drawer space. Depending on the drawer size you may need to get multiple inserts to fit the space securely.
If you’re lucky enough to have counter space then you should invest in a jewellery stand which can contain necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings. You may also need an insert that can be placed on the counter for those items that can’t be contained in the stand and can be quickly dropped in. Putting earrings in a jewellery stand can be fiddly.
Jewellery Draw Inserts
There are lots of different options around and the best fit for you will depend on your space size and budget. Kmart is a good starting option, otherwise Amazon has far more choices in terms of colour and size, and IKEA stocks the Komplement range with different size and layout options. I recommend that if you are purchasing multiple inserts then you choose ones with different layouts - for example one insert can have small cube storage which is great for earrings and rings, and another will have larger slots for watches or larger statement pieces. If you can’t find inserts that fit your space perfectly and they slide around a little in the drawer, use blu-tack, double-sided tape, or sticky dots on the bottom to secure them.
Jewellery Stands
What stand you choose will depend on the size of the space, but I recommend you choose one that contains the most type of storage options for different types of jewellery. At a minimum it should have a hanging section for bracelets and necklaces, holes or drawers for earrings, and a ring slot. I also recommend a jewellery insert to hold extra items that don’t quickly or easily store in the stand. Kmart again is a good starting option for a jewellery stand, but if you’re willing to pay more, then Howards Storage World has a more comprehensive range.
The Organisation Process
Once you have your storage sorted set aside half an hour to sit and sort through your jewellery items. First, put them into categories such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, then place them into your chosen storage holder.
This is what the jewellery drawer looks like now after I organised it using aesthetic inserts. Isn’t it gorgeous?
The Result
You’ve done it! Hopefully this has inspired you to wear some pieces that were previously hidden or forgotten about. You can appreciate all the items you have collected displayed beautifully in their new space.
